Great Fire of London Brought to Life!

Our children had an unforgettable experience when they recreated The Great Fire of London on the school field! After learning all about the famous event in class, the children worked hard to design and build their own Tudor-style houses, complete with thatched roofs and timber frames.

Once their creations were ready, the houses were safely arranged on the field, and under the careful supervision of staff and the fire service, the children watched as the “fire” spread just like it did in 1666! The activity helped them see how quickly the flames moved through the tightly packed wooden buildings and why the fire became such a major disaster.

It was a fantastic hands-on learning experience that truly brought history to life. The children were amazed, excited, and full of questions about how London was rebuilt afterwards.

Year 2 Fire Safety Visit – Part of Our Fire and Ice Topic

On Tuesday, Year 2 had a fantastic visit from Green Watch at Kempston Fire Station as part of our Fire and Ice topic. The firefighters talked to the children about how to stay safe in the event of a fire and showed them some of the important equipment they use every day in their jobs.

The children learned the vital message “Get out! Stay out!” and even discovered a special poem to help them remember how dangerous matches and lighters can be. I’m sure if you ask your Year 2 child, they’ll be able to tell you all about it!

We are very grateful to Green Watch for giving up their time to visit and for helping our pupils learn how to keep themselves and others safe.
